I had been wanting to go and visit the war museum in Canberra ever since I saw the movie saving Private Ryan at the movie theatre and began a fascination with tactical warfare. So one day I had a long weekend and decided to fly down and have a look at how the Australian’s did during the war. The best way to get to the war museum was to drive down from the hotel I was staying at or otherwise I would have to catch a taxi. The thing is the taxi fare one way was the same price as renting a car for a whole day so I decided to hire one and be self reliant.
I drove into the museum and found a park some ways done the road. I guess a few hundred other people had the same brilliant idea of traveling to the war museum on this long weekend so there were a lot of cars around. The streets were lined with vehicles but I would remember mine by the stickers on the window advertising the rental car business I hired it from. The museum took all day to see just about half of it so I came back for a second round the next day. There were some surreal exhibits with lights and battle noises that were all very impressive. The second day I managed to speed up the process a bit so that I made sure I finished the tour in time. It was an exceptional museum to visit and I highly recommend it to anyone who is travelling to Canberra or anyone that is interested in war who is visiting Australia. It will make you appreciate how tough the soldiers had it in their muddy trenches and with their lack of supplies.
